ALL MIXED UP.

WHAT/WHO AM I?
Where do I belong?

This is the very question alot of multicutural children as both themselves and their parents.

Being "mixed" myself, I knew WHAT I was in regards to cultures, BUT I really didn't know WHERE I belonged.

Let me explain...
Our ENTIRE family is diverse. There are no 2 cultures the same.
The foundation of our family is Russian Jew (my Grandmother) and Bajan/Barbadian (my Grandfather)(BARBADOS).
Members of our family have married and had children with Jamaican. Italian, Lebanese, Anglo-Saxon, Columbian, First Nations, Spanish (Brazil), American (mixed...Afro-American, Mexican, German, British) and others ...too many to name.

I now have a 4year old son, and I do see that he is wondering why he is different than most of his friends.
We are the "brownings" in our family. The ones with the tans all year round, whereas the rest of our family fall to the lighter side.
My son does have mixed friends, but they too are very light.
I know the day will come when he will ask......
WHAT/WHO AM I?
Where do I belong?

I started this blog to find support and to give support to other parents of multicultural children.

In their lives they will have to deal with alot of hard issues.

For us, our son knowing where is family history comes from is EXTREMELY important, but hard to explain since he is a part of so many great places.

Share your experiences, comment, and support.

It is appreciated more than you know.

Thanks in advance.
